Sustainability Reports

Life today would be inconceivable without access to telecommunications, not only because they play a fundamental role in the social and economic development of all countries, but also because we have become a key industry at a global level.

At América Móvil, we connect people, organizations and technological tools through comprehensive mobile and fixed telecommunication services in 25 countries of Latin America and Europe. This gives us the opportunity not only to serve a population of over 892 million people, but also to build awareness of the importance of operating in a sustainable manner and by improving the communities’ life conditions through the different programs and initiatives that we are committed to.

Since 2012, we have published our Sustainability Report, which reflects in a transparent manner, the social, environmental and corporate governance performance of América Móvil and its subsidiaries. This institutional document is prepared based on the Global Reporting Initiative Guide, which works as a reference to our stakeholders, employees, investors, customers, providers and authorities, to meet our performance in detail towards a sustainable management.

América Móvil’s Corporate Governance practices are considered a benchmark in the industry. We have clear and dynamic policies on corporate governance, the main goal of which is to ensure the business is administered under clear principles of ethics and transparency, consistent with our mission, philosophy and values. The company’s corporate governance practices are subject to a number of guidelines, which include but are not limited to:

United Nations Global Compact

Since February 2016, América Móvil and its subsidiaries joined the United Nations Global Compact, reiterating our commitment to respect and promote the Ten Principles and the Sustainability Management Model of the UN Global Compact, both internally and throughout our supply chain.

Sustainable Development Goals (SDG)

Last September, 2015, the 193 Member States of the United Nations adopted a 15-year plan to achieve a better future for all. The 2030 agenda for sustainable development seeks to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure prosperity through 17 goals. Engagement of the private sector, including enterprises, civil society and individuals in our sphere of influence, is key to achieve this challenge.

In addition to the elementary activities that concern America Móvil, as industrial innovation and infrastructure investment, minimizing the environmental impact of our operations through clean energy initiatives, promoting responsible production and reducing emissions to tackle climate change, we have also identified that telecommunications and technology play an important role in facilitating the road towards the achievement of a number of other goals, from helping preserve species, to providing access to quality education, to fostering equality, employment and economic growth. We proudly contribute to accomplish these objectives through the various programs and initiatives that América Móvil’s subsidiaries, The Carlos Slim Foundation and the Telmex-Telcel Foundation implement locally.
